APPENDICES
I added three appendices to the end of Thrive. Since I’ve addressed two of the three in other posts already, I’ll offer some new additions to the third appendix – books that have been meaningful to me. As I looked back over the list to prepare this post, it was like looking at my high school yearbook. Here were all my old friends, and many memories popped to mind. I still recommend every single book wholeheartedly.
Since I read a about twenty non-fiction books every year, I have some new favorites that I’ve enjoyed since writing Thrive six years ago. There are 13 recommended books in Appendix C. Here are four more to add to your list:
- Two of Dan Sullivan’s latest books: Who Not How and The Gap and the Gain. Sullivan is the founder and longstanding head coach at his organization, Strategic Coach. Several of my clients are members and consistently recommend his messages to me. Sullivan is now making his material available to the public. Both books are extremely powerful for high producing entrepreneurs. I have pressed the theme of Who Not How into the minds of many agents who are building powerful teams.
- Atomic Habits by James Clear. You’ve probably read this book. It was the #1bestseller on all of Amazon in 2023 (all categories). Clear’s focus on systems (habits) rather than goals is instructive. His methods for building new habits and changing bad habits apply to all of us. I also encourage you to sign up for his free newsletter – you’ll get a couple of doses of his short-but-sweet medicine a couple of times per week.
- In the classics category, I offer Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. Like you, I’ve known about this book for decades, but I had not read it. The first half of the book details Frankl’s time in a Nazi concentration camp. In the second half, Frankl translates how this experience shaped his ideas about the pursuit of happiness versus the development of meaningful relationships.
I hope these books will be as impactful for you as they have been for me. Please let me know what you think, and what other books you recommend.
