Over the past three months, numerous clients have found a specialized consultant on Upwork. They have found graphic artists, Gantt chart makers, ARC-GIS cartographers, copywriters, and virtual assistants.
Without exception, the experience has been positive. What is not to like when you get multiple bidders, extensive information about those bidders (including approval ratings from customers) and samples of past work? Because each consultant offers a pre-set price for their work, you can quickly gauge the cost vs. quality relationship.
This has not been surprising to me. I detail the results of an Upwork search for commercial real estate tasks in Chapter 3 of Adapt because I was already a happy user. I continue to look for and use specialized consultants whenever I can.
Have you given it a try yet? Here are three reasons why I think you should investigate:
- These consultants are proficient at remote work. They are experts at conveying ideas, pricing, work product, revisions, and feedback in a quick, smooth fashion. Because they strive to earn high performance ratings on every job, they also manage expectations very well. How satisfied are you with the service level of your current provider?
- They often make valuable suggestions. They are smarter than I am about the project I am trying to complete. I love the moment when they say, “Oh, since that is what you are trying to accomplish, have you thought about this option?” I really appreciate the comparison of my ideas to their understanding of best practices. How fresh is your work product?
- Their work is cost effective. Do I have to pay a fee (sometimes fees to multiple vendors on the same project) for something I have decided is valuable to my clients? Yes. Am I really pleased that the consultant has taken this item off my To Do list, accomplished it in a high-quality fashion, and enabled me to do the work that I only I can do simultaneously? Absolutely!
